These unique pods are perfect for all sorts of aquatic applications! Actually, the dried fruit husk from the Palmyrah palm, they are reminiscent of the fruits and seed pods that fall into tropical streams and waterways. Aesthetically and functionally quite versatile. One of my favourite natural pods to use as spawning cave for Apistogramma species.

SIZE: They vary in size, yet average around 4-5cm in diameter. These pods will leach some tannins into the water over the long term.

PREPARATION: You need to gently soak Palmyrahpods  for at least an hour in cold water (sometimes a bit more) to really saturate them, because they do float when first immersed.

ORIGIN: Originally a native too SE Asia however we source ours from Sri Lanka

All our Australian Botanicals are pest and pollution free and are organically sourced.

NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in colour, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. All our botanicals have been tried and tested, in saying that though go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!

Awesome botanical / cave

Got this to go with my new dario hysignon pair, as it's relatively biotypic. Steeped in boiling water for ~2 hours then put in the tank (reading now I should have used cold water). Within a day I saw the male hiding in it for the first time, and it was so so cute. They've both used it now, and my CPDs swim into it occasionally too. Such a nice, natural element for the fish to interact with. 100% would recommend for other small fish, even not as a breeding cave (like here). Would be interested to try for apistos in future as well. So grateful to Mats for making this kind of stuff available all from one place in Aus.
