Cariniana Pods come to us from the Cariniana legalis tree from South America. Interestingly, these are some of Brazil's oldest trees, with some specimens over 3,000 years old! These cool seed pods fall off of the trees and are reminiscent of those which are found submerged in Amazonian waters. Perfect for aquascaping, their little openings make them a natural shelter for smaller fishes like Apistos, shrimp, and even frogs in the vivarium!
The hard surface of these pods may recruit a "biofilm", which is a fantastic supplemental food source for many small fishes and shrimp. They're durable and long-lasting underwater.
SIZE: These pods vary in their exact dimensions, of course, but typically are about 5.0-10 cm) in length, and are about 2-5 cm) wide. Some are considerably smaller, so we try to include several sizes in each package! These pods will leach some tannins into the water over the long term.
PREPARATION: You need to boil Cariniana Pods for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to really saturate them, because they do float when first immersed.
ORIGIN: South America mainly Brazil
