Origin : Apistogramma Elizabethea: Named for Mrs. Elizabeth Cabot Cary Agassiz (1822-1907), second wife of J. L. R. Agassiz, participant of the Thayer Expedition (1865-1866) and principal author of a book about the journey. The name also reflects this species’ similarity to A. agassizii.
Described from the lower rio Uaupés, Amazonas state, northwestern Brazil and appears to occur only in that drainage and the adjacent rio Içana, both of which are tributaries of the upper rio Negro system.
Type locality is ‘affluent of Rio Uaupés at Trovao, about 20 kilometers from mouth of Uaupés, Amazonas State, Brazil
Very rare fish in Australia as only a few have ever been bred/imported.

Temperature: 22 – 29 °C (25°C preferred)
pH: 4.5-6.5 Our fish are bred and grown at a ph between 4.5 and 6.5
Diet: Primarily carnivorous and apparently feeds mostly on benthic invertebrates in nature. In the aquarium live and frozen foods such as Brine shrimp, Daphnia and Blackworms should be offered regularly although most specimens will also learn to accept dried alternatives with pelleted products generally preferred to flake.
