Xylomelum pyriforme, commonly known as the woody pear, is a species of plant in the family Proteaceae native to eastern Australia. It grows as a large shrub or small tree to five metres high.

The pods are pear shaped and takes several years to mature. Seeds are winged and spiral as they fall. they make an unique decoration in any system.

They're about (8cm) or long on average, with openings around (4-5cm). These pods will leach some tannins into the water over the long term.

PREPARATION: You need to boil Woody pear pods for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to really saturate them, because they do float when first immersed. They will close when boiling this can be prevented by wedging a rock or stick in between.

ORIGIN: These native seed pods are handpicked locally from the Australian bush in South Western Australia.

All our Australian Botanicals are pest and pollution free and are organically sourced.

NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in colour, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. All our botanicals have been tried and tested, in saying that though go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!

Our Woody pear pods come from the bush and are free of any pesticides, they have been tried and tested in our setups, and have proven no harmful effects on our fish snails and shrimp.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

From the beginning, with the easy to navigate website and detailed description and notes, to the great communication and prompt dispatch and finally arrival of the products as described, clearly labelled and with the addition of an extra free gift, couldn't fault a thing of the entire process. Great service, happy customer. Thank you.
