Xylomelum pyriforme, commonly known as the woody pear, is a species of plant in the family Proteaceae native to eastern Australia. It grows as a large shrub or small tree to five metres high.
The pods are pear shaped and takes several years to mature. Seeds are winged and spiral as they fall. they make an unique decoration in any system.
They're about (8cm) or long on average, with openings around (4-5cm). These pods will leach some tannins into the water over the long term.
PREPARATION: You need to boil Woody pear pods for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to really saturate them, because they do float when first immersed. They will close when boiling this can be prevented by wedging a rock or stick in between.
ORIGIN: These native seed pods are handpicked locally from the Australian bush in South Western Australia.
All our Australian Botanicals are pest and pollution free and are organically sourced.
