White worm (Enchytraeus albidus) cultures are easy, high-protein live fish food setups requiring a plastic container, moist organic coconut coir (no fertilizer), a cool dark spot and a starter culture. Feed them wet bread, oatmeal, or dairy (yogurt) on top of the soil, covered by a glass sheet for harvesting.
Key Steps to Culturing White Worms
  • Container Set-up: Use a plastic tub with small aeration holes, filled halfway with damp, non-fertilized soil. The soil should be moist but not soaking—it should not drip when squeezed.
  • Optimal Environment: Keep cultures in a cool, dark place. Temperatures between 12-20 degrees celcius are ideal; in warmer climates, they may require a cool spot like a basement or even a dedicated wine cooler.
  • Feeding: Place food (e.g., white bread soaked in water/milk, yogurt, brewer's yeast, or oatmeal) directly on top of the soil or on a piece of plastic/glass.
  • Harvesting: Place a piece of glass or plastic over the food. The worms will gather on the underside of this piece, making them easy to pick and feed to fish.
  • Maintenance: Regularly check for mold and ensure the substrate stays moist but not wet. Re-culture (split) the culture when it becomes congested or produces less, typically every few months

What you will receive is a starter culture in the form of a sealed bag of soil, this will have enough worms to start 1 culture like in the instructions. It will take anywhere between 3-6 weeks for the culture to establish.

Please see Photos for instructions on how to culture.

Due to our cultures being kept outside they might also contain fruitfly mites and black soldier fly larvae . These are harmless and also a good source of food for your fish.
